Calm Before the Storm?

Zachary and I went on a walk this afternoon and enjoyed rather pleasant weather for this time of year. Everything looks so pretty covered in snow on this last day of February. We are under a winter storm watch beginning tomorrow morning and lasting through Friday afternoon. It could get windy with heavy snowfall and even some freezing rain. It looks like March will be coming in like a lion this year.

Fresh Snow

The schools all around this area are closed today because of the snow storm we had yesterday. Luke, Jacob, Nicholas, Zachary and Josiah were all anxious to get out and have some fun in the fresh batch of snow. I’m always glad when they can get outside and get some fresh air and burn off some of their energy.

Luke and I walked the lake on Friday. We were curious about this crack in the ice. The crack was frozen solid. We saw 3 or 4 trucks on the ice, although I personally wouldn’t be brave enough to drive on it. It always pays to be cautious on the ice. Sometimes snowmobiles or vehicles have to be retrieved from the local lakes because of unsafe ice.

Kevin surprised me with these beautiful roses yesterday.

The Great Wall

Nicholas, Zachary and Josiah erected this wall today. I think they might have too many toys.

Balmy Weather

Jacob, Kristi and I went for a walk on the lake this afternoon. It was 41 degrees while we walked. It’s a nice change from the cold, cold weather we’ve had this winter. It makes me look forward to Spring.

Kristi – she didn’t like the sound the ice was making today but it is still nice and solid.

Fear of God

I was reading in Exodus this morning and I came across this verse in chapter 20.

Exodus 20:20 (ESV)

Moses said to the people, “Do not fear, for God has come to test you, that the fear of Him may be before you, that you may not sin.”

The fear of God is a good thing because it keeps us from sin. I pray that I will be a woman who fears God and doesn’t take sin lightly.

Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God

In her book, Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God, Noel Piper tells the stories of five women who made a difference for Christ, because of the faithful lives they led. Reading the accounts of these five women will challenge you in your understanding of God’s greatness and His desire to use faithful servants for His glory. God can work in amazing ways through vessels committed to obedient service. The five women featured in this book are Sarah Edwards, Lilias Trotter, Gladys Aylward, Esther Ahn Kim, and Helen Roseveare. As you read the accounts of these women, including a great preacher’s wife, a woman who suffered persecution for the sake of Christ, women who faced challenges on the foreign mission field, and even the account of a woman doctor and her service as a medical missionary, you will be encouraged by their faithful examples and the mighty God they served. This book is a worthwhile read and a powerful reminder of the value of living life to glorify God.

Fresh February Air

Kristi, Luke, Jacob and Nicholas joined me for my walk on the lake this afternoon. We enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. The sky was really pretty today. I was tempted not to walk but I’m so glad I did. I always feel energized and refreshed when I get outside. As we were leaving the lake, Taylor spotted us and waved. He and Kevin Michael are out ice-fishing with a friend. There were several other ice-fishermen out on the lake enjoying this beautiful February day.
