Trip to Grand Marais

Yesterday Luke and I went to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to pick up Kevin M. He spent 9 days hiking 160 miles of the North Country Trail. It was a beautiful drive and we got to enjoy some amazing views of beautiful Lake Superior and we visited nearby Sable Falls. We even saw a rainbow on the drive home. It’s great to have Kevin back home and we enjoyed hearing all about his adventure.

Michigan’s Adventure

Yesterday we spent a fun filled day at Michigan’s Adventure.

Lake Michigan Trip

On Thursday we traveled to St. Ignace and enjoyed the beautiful northern shores of Lake Michigan. We had a picnic lunch and of course we stopped for some fudge while we were in the area.

P.H. Hoeft State Park

We are on vacation this week. We would have preferred an earlier fall vacation, but October was a busy month. We stayed at the lodge at P.H. Hoeft State Park near Roger’s City. We enjoyed discovering cool looking rocks, hiking around the park, and seeing some local attractions. Our first night the stars were bright and beautiful along the shore of Lake Huron. We had a fire and made s’mores. The kids enjoyed some star tipping too. We spotted freighters on Lake Huron and some of us enjoyed a beautiful sunrise. We went to Ocqueoc Falls, 40 Mile Point Lighthouse, a local apple orchard and viewed the biggest open pit limestone quarry in the world. We had fun playing games and enjoyed lots of laughter. It was fun exploring a new part of the state we hadn’t seen yet.

Warren Dunes

We had a great time camping at Warren Dunes. The weather was gorgeous. It was nice and warm and didn’t rain. We enjoyed beautiful Lake Michigan and hiking around the dunes.

John Hancock Center

Kevin and I enjoyed some spectacular views of Chicago and Lake Michigan from the observatory on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Center this afternoon.
