UP Travels

Yesterday we went to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and had a picnic lunch at a roadside park, next to the Cut River Bridge. We hiked under the bridge and crossed it on foot. We enjoyed some beautiful views of Lake Michigan. We planned to visit Tahquamenon Falls but as we were driving along M-123 we started seeing smoke which grew increasingly thicker. When we got to the park to see the Falls we were informed that they were closed due to a large forest fire. The Duck Lake fire has burned through 18,000 acres of land. Since we couldn’t visit the Falls, we enjoyed a pretty drive on the Whitefish Bay Scenic Byway. We saw part of the North Country Trail that Kevin M. hiked last September. We stopped by Point Iroquois Lighthouse and enjoyed the view from the tower. Then we headed to St. Ignace for some supper. We made our way home as the sun was setting on a beautiful day. Luke did all the driving and even got to drive across the Mackinac Bridge for the first time.
